Step 2 Your estimate, with the math shown

Good to know before you sell

What melt value means

Melt value is the worth of the pure gold inside a piece: weight × purity × gold price. Only the gold counts — stones do not.

How purity works

24K is pure gold (99.99%). 18K is three quarters pure (75%). 14K is just over half pure (58.333%). 10K is just over forty percent pure (41.667%). The karat stamp tells you the share of pure gold; the rest is alloy.

Why weight matters more than size or brand

Two chains can look the same and be worth very different amounts, because the gold weight and the karat are different. Size and brand do not set the melt value — weight and purity do.

What changes the final offer

The tested karat, the gold only weight after stones are removed, the condition of the piece, and whether it is wearable or broken.

What to check before you sell

Have the karat and the gold only weight confirmed, compare 4 or 5 jewellers, and keep the full breakdown for each quote so you can compare like with like.

Diamonds and stones

Stones are valued separately from gold — they are not weighed as gold. A final stone value is confirmed after testing, never guessed in the calculator. The exception: lab grown diamonds have little resale value, so we price the gold only.

Step 4 Get your offer

  1. Tell us the karat, the gold only weight, and whether you can ship or meet in Atlanta.
  2. We send a no pressure quote with the full breakdown.
  3. Check with 4 or 5 other jewellers if you want — the offer stays open.
  4. Only when you ask for payment details and are ready do we set up pickup or shipping.
